Dr. Nam completed a combined undergraduate/medical degree in South Korea before moving on to psychiatry residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. After residency he joined the psychiatry faculty at UI and – while teaching students, training residents, and helping patients – completed a research fellowship and a program in health informatics. Over his career Dr. Nam has been involved in research spanning brain imaging, NMDA transmission, Alzheimer’s Disease, and applying machine learning and classification algorithms to medical records.

To SeattleNTC Dr. Nam brings a clinical focus on brain stimulation treatments, including ECT, rTMS, and DBS. He is especially interested in helping patients with neuropsychiatric conditions who benefit from collaboration with neurology and neuropsychology. While working at Iowa he gained experience with ketamine and esketamine through the NMDA transmission research, the esketamine clinical trial, and ketamine anesthesia for ECT. He is using this experience in his role at SeattleNTC heading up our esketamine (Spravato) program. Dr. Nam is based in our Bellevue office and performs ECT treatments at Swedish Issaquah.
